Once again in 2010, OW2 are organizing an open source programming contest. The purpose of the competition is to develop awareness for the OW2 code base among students and technicians, and to provide an opportunity for contestants to demonstrate their talent in computer programming. What's more, the contest aims at promoting teamwork and the ability of college students in science and technology to study and use OW2 open source projects. Based on principles of "freedom, sharing and creativity", and aiming at improving international communication and cooperation, the competition is overseen by IT professionals and academics from Europe and China. Introduction of OW2

     OW2 is a global open-source software community which goal is the development of open-source distributed middleware, in the form of flexible and adaptable components. These components range from specific software frameworks and protocols to integrated platforms. OW2 developments follow a component-based approach. OW2 mission is to develop open source code middleware and to foster a vibrant community and business ecosystem. OW2 has developed into the biggest open source middleware consortium with more than 100 mature projects, 60 registered organizations and 1200 registered individual members.

History of OW2

    Since January 2002, ObjectWeb a joint project between INRIA, Bull and France Telecom has grown into a mature open source community spanning three continents. Orientware, was launched two years later by Peking University, Beihang University, National University of Defense Technology, CVIC Software Engineering Co., Ltd., Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
In September 2005, ObjectWeb and Orientware signed an agreement by which they committed to share their code base and jointly develop open source middleware software. The two communities merged at the end of 2006. CVIC SE is the strategic member as well as the only founding enterprise member in China.
