Dr. James Rumbaugh and Dr. Ivar Jacobson, masters of UML, paid a visit and gave a speech to CVIC SE in November and December respectively. They have brought new technological methodologies to CVIC and greatly promoted CVIC's software development and core competitive capability improvement.
With the accompaniment of Steve Chen, general manager of the China region of IBM Rational, Dr. James Rumbaugh visited CVIC (Kunshan) Software Engineering Co., Ltd. on November 9th, 2004 and gave a speech there. Dr. James Rumbaugh is a world-famous software development methodologist, who has put forward a great number of UML concepts. He has been leading the tide of UML's future development. In his speech, he primarily introduced how to make software development easier and improve the software development efficiency by using modeling. After that, he answered some questions concerning modeling and software developing which were raised by CVIC's employees. At the end of the speech, Dr. James Rumbaugh signed his books and presented them to those attending the training.
On December 7th, 2004, Dr. Ivar Jacobson visited CVIC's Jinan headquarters and gave the speech Essentials of RUP. Dr. Ivar Jacobson is the inventor of Objectory and one of the three founders of the UML modeling language. His use case method has a deep effect on the whole software developing industry. In his speech, he analyzed the current challenges which software development is facing and from the methodology's point of view, illustrated the direction of software development. This speech brought the newest methodologies and concepts to CVIC's employees.
Before the visit, CVIC had just signed an agreement with IBM to cooperate in setting up the first software testing center based on Rational/SDP in China and the first remote accessible software development platform. This can help CVIC to supply testing, training and consulting services based on the IBM software development platform. This platform will improve the engineering capability of software development by a great deal.
