Question and Answer

Q: Why can't I access the Australian TV guide website?

A: There is a regression in older versions of the software, please download the newest version to fix this problem.

Q: How can I adjust record quality?

A: During installation, Xpress PVR will automatically detect crucial system hardware components, and set a recommended recording profiles based on your configuration.

You can adjust the recording quality by choosing one of the preset profiles, or define your own customized settings.

Below is an example of values that Xpress PVR might propose for each record level, when using a system with an Intel Pentium4 2.4GHz processor.

Note, these values will change according to your hardware configuration. The higher the bit rate, the more processing power is required to record.

Record Quality

Capture Size

Video bit rate

Audio bit rate

Total record time

Good

320x240 pixels

1800 kit/sec

224 kbt/sec

Depends on the disk warning space reserved on the Record page. The better the record quality, the more disk storage space required.

Better

352x480 pixels

3600 kbit/sec

Best

640x480 pixels

6400 kbit/sec

Q: How to edit video file and burn VCD/DVD?

A: Please install Ulead Video Studio (UVS7.0) which is an appendix of Xpress PVR. Any problems, please consult the introduction file or visit: www.ulead.com.

Q: Why aren’t my schedules being executed?

A: There may be two reasons:

1) Your scheduler is disabled. Please open the Schedule Manager to check if the schedule is disabled.

2) The scheduler is not activated. You should activate the scheduler in the “Record” tab of the “Preferences” dialog.

Q: Why can’t I take snapshots?

A: You should install DirectX 9 or higher. You can find it in the installation CD or go to this address: “http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/downloads/” to download it.

Q: Why is the picture snowy at full screen?

A: You should improve the performance of your PC:

1) Upgrade the driver of graphics card, ensure it supports DirectX 9.

2) Lower your screen resolution and change the color quality to 16 bits.

Q: Why is there a lot of echo when watching TV and the volume control does not seem to adjust the actual volume, at all?

A: Please refer to following:

1) Please hook the Xpress PVR into the line in first.

2) Select “Line In” as the sound source in the Preferences/Device tab

3) If you hook the Xpress PVR into another sound input port, please change the sound source in the Preferences/Device tab.

Q: Why does the program occasionally crash when I change from "Normal" to "Highest" quality in timeshift?

A: This issue is caused by inadequate system resources. Since timeshift uses a large amount of system resources, if 100% of system resources are consumed, the program will almost consistently crash.

Q: Why don’t some buttons on the remote control work?

A: Some of the buttons ( ) on the remote are not designed for this version of the software. It is possible that they will be used in the further version. To learn more about the remote control, please refer to chapter 11.
